Rey Mysterio made his entrance and entered the ring after everyone else cleared out. Rey looked down at the AAA and WWE logos that were in the middle of the ring. The ropes and turnbuckle pads were red, green, and white. Rey spoke to the crowd in Spanish. Rey closed by saying that he fell in love with lucha libre as a kid…
Entrances for the opening match took place. Octagon Jr., Aero Star, and Mr. Iguana came out to a generic rock instrumental. Iguana brought his stuffed iguana to the ring. Octagon’s father worked the original Worlds Collide show. The LWO’s entrance followed…
1. “The LWO” Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro, and Lince Dorado vs. Octagon Jr., Aero Star, and Mr. Iguana. Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio were shown watching the match from the first row. Konnan noted that he is Dom’s godfather. He also emphasized that this is not American wrestling. A graphic listed the broadcast team, including Vero Rodriguez and Chuey Martinez were listed as backstage interviewers.
The crowd popped and chanted “Iguana” when he entered the match for the first time. The stuffed iguana is named Yezka. A “lucha libre” chant broke out while Lee and Aero Star fought one another. Aero Star performed a corkscrew crossbody or a two count. Octagon and Iguana performed stereo dives, and then Aero Star capped it off with a tope suicida/suicide dive.
Dorado got the stuffed iguana and stomped it, then performed a standing shooting star press. Iguana got his revenge with a head-scissors takedown. There was another round of dives that was capped off by Del Toro running up the ropes and performing a corkscrew dive onto multiple wrestlers below. Octagon and Dorado fought in the ring. Octagon hit a top rope moonsault fallaway slam and scored the pin.
Octagon Jr., Aero Star, and Mr. Iguana defeated “The LWO” Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro, and Lince Dorado in 14:10.
Konnan said it was a big win for AAA. He said everyone wrestled their ass off and then said he was giving them a standing ovation.

Octagon Jr. went to ringside, where Dom jawed at him in Spanish. Octagon pulled Dom over the barricade, and then they fought into the ring until they were pulled apart. Dom told Octagon Jr. that he would see him at Money in the Bank. Dom said he would put the Intercontinental Championship on the line. Konnan asked if Dom books his own matches…
Powell’s POV: A fun opening match that played to a hot crowd. Dot Net staffer John Moore is in attendance. At the start of the show, he mentioned that the attendance was strong and that the upper deck was not tarped off. He added that the only thin area was on the hard camera side, but people were still filing in.
A video package aired on the late AAA founder, Antonio Pena. The narrator spoke in Spanish while English subtitles were used…
Graves asked Konnan what this event means. He said it was an emotional moment. He thanked WWE for giving AAA the platform…
Mascarita Sagrada and Latin Lover were shown in the crowd… Musical performer, That Mexican OT was also shown…

2. Stephanie Vaquer and Lola Vice vs. Chik Tormenta and Dalys. Konnan said Dalys is trained by Negro Casas, whom he labeled as being like the Shawn Michaels of Mexico. Konnan noted that Vice’s gear was based on the Cuban flag. Vaquer went for her leg driver move early, but Dalys blocked it. The crowd booed.
Vice hit hip attacks on both opponents in opposite corners and then covered Tormenta for a two count. Konnan said Vice was looking better than he anticipated, considering that she was not trained in lucha libre. Moments later, Tormenta caught Vice with a clothesline at ringside. Vice was isolated by her opponents. Tormenta powerslammed Vice for a two count. Negra Casas was shown in the crowd.
Vaquer eventually took a hot tag. Vaquer and Vice by used their legs to drive the faces of their opponents into the mat. Vaquer hit Tormenta with her SVB finisher and then pinned her. The broadcast team played up the student beating the teacher.
Stephanie Vaquer and Lola Vice defeated Chik Tormenta and Dalys in 9:35.
After the match, Vero Rodriguez entered the ring and interviewed Vaquer and Vice. They all spoke in Spanish, and Vaquer mentioned Money in the Bank at the end of her comments…
Powell’s POV: The match was solid. Vaquer was over, and the crowd continued to be hot for everything.
Chuey Martinez interviewed Chad Gable in the backstage area. Martinez said Gable has said some negative things about the Mexican people, and now he’s in the lion’s den. Gable said the Mexican fans love him because they saw what he went through to learn the “dark arts of lucha libre.” Gable put over El Grande Americano. Gable said he would walk out as the AAA Mega Champion…
A video package set up the next match. Legado Del Fantasma spoke first, and then their opponents were featured…
Chavo Guerrero Jr. was shown in the crowd. Konnan said he worked with Chavo in Lucha Underground and WCW. Some dude in a mask named Foos Gone Wild was shown, but he was mislabeled as The Street Profits, who were then shown in another part of the crowd… Entrances for the next match took place…
3. “Legado Del Fantasma” Santos Escobar, Angel, and Berto vs. El Hijo De Dr. Wagner Jr., Psycho Clown, and Pagano. Graves said the AAA team featured three of the most popular stars in all of lucha libre. The LDF trio wore camouflage pants with a small WWE patch on the left hip.
Pagano went for a dive through the ropes on Berto, but Escobar pulled him out of the way, causing Pagano to crash and burn. Konnan said Escobar is the kind of guy who would steal your wallet and then help you look for it. Konnan said the same is true of Graves, who said they just met. Konnan said he could just tell.
Late in the match, all six men entered the ring and traded punches. Angel and Berto tossed Wagner off the ropes. Psycho Clown hit a Psycho Driver on Berto. Angel performed a moonsault onto an opponent on the floor. Pagano dove from the ropes onto Angel. Wagner jumped off the ring steps and hit Escobar, then brought him inside the ring and covered him, but Angel broke it up.
There was a series of rapid-fire spots between four of the wrestlers. Wagner hit Escobar from behind and then played to the crowd for an Eddie Guerrero tribute, but Escobar cut him off on the ropes. Escobar pulled Wagner from the ropes with a huracanrana that resulted in a near fall. Moments later, Escobar drilled Wagner with a knee strike and then hit the Phantom Driver and pinned him…
“Legado Del Fantasma” Santos Escobar, Angel, and Berto defeated El Hijo De Dr. Wagner Jr., Psycho Clown, and Pagano in 15:00.
Powell’s POV: It was nice to get through a Pagano match without seeing someone end up with skewers stuck in their scalp. More hard work from everyone involved. I’m surprised that Konnan has been bringing up the WWE vs. AAA scoreboard of matches won on this event.
A video package recapped the AAA When Worlds Collide event from 1994. Konnan spoke in Spanish about working the main event cage match against Perro Aguayo…
The Spanish broadcast team checked in and one of them put on a AAA cowboy hat…

4. Ethan Page vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Rey Fenix vs. Laredo Kid in a four-way for the NXT North American Championship. Lilian Garcia delivered in-ring introductions for the championship match. Page broke up a fun exchange between Evans and Fenix. Page performed a huracanrana at one point and then mugged for the crowd while the broadcast team expressed surprise over him performing the move.
Kid put Fenix down with a Michinoku Driver and then followed up with a moonsault. Kid fought off Page and then hit what Graves labeled a DDT version of a Destroyer on Fenix. Kid had the pin, but Evans returned to break it up. A “this is awesome” chant broke out.
Kid went up top, but Evans cut him off and got him a tree of woe. Evans cleared Page from the ring with a German suplex. Evans shook the ropes and then hit a dive over the top rope onto Page on the floor, causing both men to tumble over the English broadcast table. Konnan said he wished the wrestlers would have taken out the Spanish announcers instead. Funny.
Evans jumped from the top rope on one side of the ring and flipped into a kick on Kid, who was still caught in a tree of woe. Evans followed up with a cutter on Fenix, but Page broke up the pin. Fenix came back a short time later and picked up a near fall after slamming Evans to the mat. Evans hit Page with a top rope clothesline that left after one down. Another “this is awesome” chant broke out.
Evans and Kid were on the ropes when Page shoved Fenix into them. Page set up Fenix for an Ego’s Edge, but Fenix escaped and ended up the top rope, where he kicked Page away. Fenix hit a top rope Spanish Fly on Kid. Page hit Fenix with the Ego’s Edge and had him beat, but Evans springboarded from the top rope to break up the pin. Moments later, Evans hit a springboard cutter on Kid. Page threw Evans out of the ring and onto Fenix on the floor. Page hit the Twisted Grin on Kid and then pinned him…
Ethan Page defeated Laredo Kid, Je’Von Evans, and Rey Fenix in a four-way in 14:55 to retain the NXT North American Championship.
Powell’s POV: This was easily the best match of the night. It helped that a title was at stake, but all four men delivered in a big way. Page pinning Kid was the most obvious outcome.
A video package aired on TripleMania. It was stated that if WrestleMania is the Super Bowl of wrestling, then TripleMania is the World Cup of wrestling. Konnan said it’s AAA’s biggest show of the year and that wrestlers lose their masks and hair, and the biggest surprises occur. TripleMania 33 will be held August 16…
A video package set up the main event… The challenger and the champion were shown walking in separate locations in the backstage area… Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias was shown in the crowd… Entrances for the main event took place. Graves said every era has a face of of lucha libre. He mentioned Rey Mysterio and Rey Fenix and said now it’s Vikingo (um, he may have left out a few names)…
5. El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Chad Gable for the AAA Mega Championship. Lilian Garcia delivered in-ring introductions for the championship match. Gable went on the offensive, and the crowd was on the quiet side for the first time all night. Konnan said it would hurt the pride of a lot of people if AAA lost the series of matches 4-1 to WWE. Vikingo started to come back, and Gable sold a shoulder injury.
Vikingo did a wild 630 splash onto Gable at ringside, which revved up the crowd. Vikingo rolled Gable inside the ring and covered him for a two count. Gable came back and set up a table on the floor. Gable tried to German suplex Vikingo through the table, but Vikingo stuffed it. Gable put Vikingo down with a clothesline on the floor and then rolled him back in the ring and covered him for a two count.
Gable maintained offensive control for a few minutes. Vikingo eventually came back with a cool double stomp move. Vikingo stood on the middle rope outside the ring and then twisted into a 450 splash for a near fall. A “this is awesome” chant broke out. Gable caught Vikingo going for a move and executed what Graves called a Niagara Driver.
Gable went for a top rope moonsault, but he landed on his feet when Vikingo moved. Vikingo went to the ropes and was cut off by Gable, who joined him on the ropes. Gable executed a wild inside sit-out powerbomb for a near fall. Wow.
Vikingo battled back and then jumped from the top of the ring post and hit Gable with a Destroyer on the apron. Vikingo rolled Gable back inside the ring and then covered him for a near fall. Vikingo went up top again, but Gable shoved him to the floor. Gable placed Vikingo on the top at ringside. Gable went up top and performed a moonsault that drove Vikingo through the table and left both men down temporarily. Both barely wrestlers beat the referee’s ten count.
Gable put Vikingo in an ankle lock. Vikingo reached for the ropes, but Gable pulled him back to the middle of the ring. Gable transitioned into a German suplex, but Vikingo landed on his feet and then kicked Gable. Vikingo held his left knee and then clutched it while going for a move on the ropes. Vikingo jumped from the ropes and hit a Poison Rana and then hit the 630 splash and scored the pin…
El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Chad Gable in 22:00 to retain the AAA Mega Championship.
A group of wrestlers from both promotions entered the ring. Vikingo was placed on the shoulders of one of the wrestlers, and they all played to the hard camera to conclude the show…
Powell’s POV: Hopefully, Vikingo was just selling at the end. He hit the 630 splash perfectly, but he did reach for his left knee again. Gable really slowed down the pace. It brought the crowd down, and then the wrestlers were able to get them up again for the closing minutes. I preferred the four-way, but the main event was also very good.
Overall, an enjoyable show and a solid introduction to AAA for newcomers. That said, it didn’t feel like they dumbed it down too much to cater to unfamiliar English-speaking fans. Rather, they played heavily to the Latino crowd with video packages and promos that were delivered in Spanish with subtitles. The undercard was fun and built nicely to the two championship matches that carried the show. I will have more to say about this event momentarily when I record an audio review of the event that will be available before Money in the Bank as a free Pro Wrestling Boom Podcast. Chad wrestling again tonight after that match is just wild. I assume the men’s MITB match is going on last. Give the guy as much time as possible in between.
Yep, just insane to go all out like that in one match just to go again tonight.
